About FPS Checker | Methodology and Editorial Policy

Learn who maintains FPS Checker, how the browser tests work, and what the results can and cannot tell you.

What FPS Checker Does

FPS Checker provides browser-based tools for measuring animation frame timing, estimating display refresh rate and comparing motion. The tools are free to use and do not require an account or software download.

How Measurements Work

The FPS test counts requestAnimationFrame callbacks while the page is visible. The frame-time test records the interval between frames, and the refresh-rate test estimates the active display cadence from those intervals. Results describe the current browser session, hardware load and display settings, not a game's internal renderer.

Important Limitations

Background tabs, battery-saving modes, browser extensions, thermal throttling, driver settings and other workloads can change the result. A browser test cannot replace an in-game overlay or a calibrated measurement device. Repeat a test under comparable conditions before comparing results.

Editorial Policy

Guides are written and maintained by the FPS Checker team. We separate measured behavior from general advice, identify browser-test limitations, and update pages when the implementation or supporting documentation changes. Questions and corrections can be sent to [email protected].
